Tactics and calls for coyotes?
I used to shoot coyotes while feeding cattle with no calling. They would just slink up while the calves were coming in. Now I want to call them in without using the livestock. I currently have a distress caller... http://www.gamecalls.net/products/Cass_Creek_Electronic_Predator_Game_Call_Training_Device-211-3.html and plenty of camo and a .223 with good glass on it. What else do I need for callers and tactics?
Most of the time I will sit in at the base of a tree with a bush partially blocking me and I am camoed up.
What callers should I add?
If you are in an area where they get hunted alot, make sure to use different tactics than most people are probably using. If you are using the same calls that other hunters are using, the dogs will wisen up to them and stay away.
Believe it or not, I have had success using turkey calls to bring in coyotes. It's a natural prey animal for them and no other hunters think to call the coyotes using the calls. I also have used my turkey decoys along with the calls to bring them in.
