Are there different subgenres of jazz?

I mostly listen to rock and there's tons of subgenres like post-punk, horror-rock, psychobilly, etc. Is it the same with jazz? I don't know a thing about this genre.

absolutely.

Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington fall under the umbrella of "Big Band or Swing." some other good big bands would be Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Coleman Hawkins, and Harry James.

other subgenres include Bebop (technical, small-group jazz), Hard Bop (a bluesier version of bebop), Cool Jazz (smooth, slower jazz), and Fusion (Jazz + Rock). and of course many others.
