Gameplay
Two new game modes have been added, one to simplify the trick system (Easy Mode) and one to make it harder (Hardcore Mode). Hardcore Mode restricts tricks to be performed at a lower height to make things such as flip-tricks and getting onto ledges harder; it has been said that you can bail on flat if you don't flick a trick hard enough. Grinds are also much harder as there isn't as much 'suction' into ledges and rails. It also takes five pushes to get to top speed on flat as opposed to the three in the last two skate games. The videos on the main website also say that Hardcore Mode is for a more sim-oriented gamer-base. Easy Mode tweaks the games physics in the opposite direction of Hardcore Mode, allowing higher ollies, faster spins, and easier (more magnetic) grinds. Although Skate 3 adds several new features to the series, this iteration excludes the offline "Party Play" mode featured in Skate 2 which allowed competition between friends without the the need for an internet connection.
skate.Park is also a feature in Skate 3 that allows gamers to build skateparks similar to the Tony Hawk games. According to the skate website, players can build a variety of set-ups such as mega ramps and plazas.
There will be three new game modes to play with others: '1-Up', 'Domination', and 'Own The Lot'. In 1-Up you have a given number of seconds to get a point total as a team and then the other team has to beat, or "1-Up", that score. In Domination the teams are going against each other trying to own as many spots that they can in a time limit. In Own The Lot there will be six to twelve things to do (e.g.; grind a ledge, flip-trick off a ramp) in a certain area that need to be completed by your team first to win.
The game will take place in the fictional city of Port Carverton, which embraces skateboarding, unlike the "skateboarding is a crime" mentality that permeated the second game. Several notable skateboarding pros appear throughout the game such as Darren Navarrette, Terry Kennedy, Eric Koston, and several others. It is also a much more colorful and happier place than Skate 2's desaturated, grainy streets. Instead of security guards chasing you, they will instead point you to the next great spot, and pedestrians will cheer you on, rather than complain when you skate by them.
Development
In the developers diary, it is revealed that characters such as Joey Brezinsky, Dan Drehobl, Benny Fairax, Josh Kalis, Lizard King, Andrew Reynolds, Terry Kennedy, Chris Cole, Jason Dill and Rob Dyrdek will be featured in the game. Also, new tricks will be introduced, like the darkslide, underflip and dropping into a ramp.
Developers recently hinted that the new game would include difficulty levels. Skate 3 is set in a new city called Port Carverton. Port Carverton will be made up of three districts, Downtown, the University and Industrial. Each district has its own unique designs and monuments, Downtown is full of slick rigid ledges and rails while the University is full of banks and open areas. Industrial is the most unique, it is home of a huge quarry that has over 10,000 hand-designed bricks of stone.
According to Mutato Muzika's website, Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo and Del the Funkee Homosapien are involved with Skate 3's soundtrack. The game will also feature music by composer Dan Diaz, who continues his work with the franchise after writing for Skate 2 and Skate It.
Skate 3 will also feature a tutorial mode called "Skate School with Coach Frank". Jason Lee lends his likeness and voice as Coach Frank.

has anyone here skated then ew jason dill etnies?
I really like etnies vulcs and Emericas. My favorite two skate skoes were the etnies Sheckler 2s and the Emerica Reynolds 3s (The Arto 2s were pretty good also). Anyway I just wanted to know what you guys thought of them (howed they feel, good/bad grip, rips easily).
i perosnally like the dill etnies myself. they aren't as comfortable as some others but they have a great grip and are really good quality (won't rip) unless you are very mean to them lol
